MRPA’s Operations University is an 8-month professional development program designed to prepare the next generation of operations leaders in parks and recreation. Through monthly sessions held across the state—from August to March—24 selected participants will gain hands-on experience and foundational knowledge in park operations, leadership, and sustainable practices. The program combines classroom learning, site visits, collaborative projects, and expert-led discussions, culminating in a group presentation at the MRPA Conference in April.
Participants will have an opportunity through this educational series to become certified in numerous areas such as:
- Professional Fertilizer Applicator through the Maryland Department of Agriculture
- Registered Pesticide Applicator Certificate
- Playground Maintenance Technician Certificate Program through NRPA
- Chainsaw Use and Safety
Session topics include stormwater management, athletic field management, snow/ice management, trail development, playground maintenance and accessibility, tree and chainsaw management, and professional development, which includes an overnight retreat.
Note: Dates are being finalized and will be provided to participants once they are accepted into the program.
