Description


The Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George's County is an unprecedented six-time National Gold Medal Award winner for excellence in park and recreation management. This award is given by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The Northern Recreation & Leisure Services Division is seeking a talented Assistant Facility Manager. The selected candidate must be creative, customer service oriented and able to work well in a team environment.

Please note that the salary above represents earning potential. The budgeted salary range for these positions is $57,062 - $79,063. Salary is commensurate with experience. 
 



Examples of Important Duties


  • Plans, organizes, and implements recreation activities, classes, programs, and special events for a specific facility
  • Market programs for facility.  Prepare and distribute flyers, rack cards, ads, posters, and other marketing materials.
  • Overall supervision of the community center to ensure all programs and events are operating smoothly at the direction of the Facility Manager
  • Supervise intermittent, volunteer and contracted employees.  Recruits, interviews, selects and trains staff.  Evaluates and counsels employees.
  • Monitor and track expenditures for programs and projects.
  • Plans, schedules, and assigns work.  Approve timecards for seasonal staff.  Monitor and track seasonal staff hours worked.
  • Attend trainings to familiarize self with M-NCPPC software, policies and procedures.
  • Perform on committee assignments.
  • Prepare check request, purchase card request, purchase requisitions, personnel action forms, mileage reimbursements, and other administrative reports.


Minimum Qualifications


  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Recreation Management, Facility Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field.
  2. One (1) year of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, tennis, aquatics, ice rinks).
  3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years.
  4. Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position.
  5. Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics).
  6. Pass Commission medical exam.
