Description


Montgomery Parks offers a variety of fun active day camps including ice skating, tennis, nature, wilderness survival, and more. We are seeking a Camp Nurse that will provide medical guidance and support to the summer camp team throughout the camp season. This position will require approximately 10-20 hours per week from mid-June to the end of August with additional hours at the end of May and early June for staff training and planning meetings.

Examples of Important Duties

Administrative

-Reviews Youth Camp Safety Standards Manual

-Reviews Camper Health and Information forms, Medication Administration Authorization forms, and other applicable camper forms; and advise staff as needed

-Maintain accurate and detailed medical records


Training

-Participates in summer camp pre-service trainings on May 30, 2025, and June 7, 2025.

-Trains staff on emergency medication administration including EpiPen and inhalers, first aid for acute illnesses, bloodborne pathogens, and other appropriate --topics in the Health Program.


Oversight

-Conducts site visits , primarily on Mondays and as needed throughout the week during camp season (6/16-8/15) to review forms, inspects sites, and advise staff.

-Ensures compliance with Health Program and applicable COMAR regulations.

-Identifies pertinent camper medical needs and concerns.

-Administer medication in the event a participant is unable to self-administer medication.


Communication

Be accessible to the staff for questions by phone, text, or email during camp hours.

Responds to camp staff via email, TEAMS, and/or phone regarding camper forms and health questions.

Support camp directors and staff in communication with parents regarding their child's health status in various situations, including injuries or illnesses that require further medical attention.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with pediatric diabetes, illnesses, anaphylactic allergy, and seizures

Experience teaching or conducting trainings

Active Registered Nurse in state of Maryland

Proven success in working with children and young adults with medical conditions, and/or disabilities.


Minimum Qualifications

Licensed by State as physician, certified Nurse Practitioner, or RN

Valid driver's license, completion of Defensive Driving Certification upon hiring.

First Aid, CPR & AED Certification

Must complete background check including Child Protective Service check


Supplemental Information

Summer Camps are Monday – Friday beginning the week of 6/16 and run through 8/15, excluding the week of 6/30-7/4.

Typical camp hours are 9am - 5pm.

Summer Camp Nurse will be provided access to MNCPPC vehicle during work hours.

Site Locations: Brookside Nature Center; Brookside Gardens; Meadowside Nature Center; Black Hill Discovery Center; Locust Grove Nature Center; Maydale Nature Classroom.

Summer Camp Nurse will be provided access to MNCPPC vehicle for travel during work hours.

Laptop and cell phone will be provided.
