Charles County Government is seeking a dynamic Assistant Golf Course Manager to perform golf course management work for the County.  This work includes assisting with the management of the County’s golf course including planning and implementing tournaments and activities; operating the pro shop, cart rentals and other services; and preparing related records and reports. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists with the development of plans for facility improvements. 
  • Assists with the administration of the rules and regulations for the operation of the golf course; proposes and makes recommendations to existing rules and regulations.
  • Assists with all golf course programs and activities including tournaments, leagues, clinic, lessons, and special events.
  • Maintains courteous relationships with the public, vendors, contractors, and tactfully and efficiently responds to complaints, concerns, and problems that may arise. 
  • Assists with the implementation of programs to attract new members, increase attendance, and creates other revenue generating programs and events. 
  • Assists with club house and pro shop operations ensuring the highest quality standards for food, beverage, and related services.
  • Ensures the County is not placed in a position of liability by noncompliance with regulatory requirements and acts of negligence or poor management decisions. 
  • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of data and related files, records, and reports. 
  • Recommends the purchase of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with inventories of food, beverages, and pro shop merchandise.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned. 


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).  Four (4) years of experience in recreation, business management, or park management; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

Employee is subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of the game of golf and best modern practices in golf course operations      
  • Knowledge of marketing and advertising techniques.
  • Ability to determine the specific tasks and assignments to be performed, independently handling new, unusual problems and deviations encountered in the work.
  • Ability to identify problems and to initiate solutions and/or corrective measures.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in accordance with rules, regulations, and established policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to work changing and irregular shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to deal courteously with the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is partly sedentary with periods of moderate physical activity.  Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 25 pounds; climb stairs; bend, kneel, crouch and crawl; reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; feel the size, shape, and temperature of items; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors.

Principal duties of this job are performed in a general office, in shop or field settings and outside environment.
