Facilities Management Division:
The HVACR Mechanic II will be part of the Facilities Management Division. This Division of 118 staff provides for the care and maintenance of the Department’s physical assets including facilities, pavement, fleet, and major building systems. With a budget over $13 million dollars, the division is responsible for facility condition assessments, major and minor maintenance programs, and serves as the primary support to the Department’s Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The division strives to achieve a balance between the upkeep of aging facilities and new construction by integrating a number of CIP and major maintenance projects into the daily work program each year.
The HVACR Shop consists of 7 HVACR mechanics engaged in park renovation and improvement projects such as installing, maintaining, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems and equipment at Commission buildings, structures, and property.

Examples of Important Duties
Repairing and Troubleshooting Major and Minor Problems
- Installs, modifies, tests, connects, maintains, adjusts, and repairs HVACR systems and equipment of various tonnages and BTU outputs, including accessories and components.
- Inspects and troubleshoots HVACR systems for problems, damages, or necessary repairs and recommends corrective actions.
- Uses a variety of manual and power tools and equipment to perform major repairs and installations of all types of HVACR control systems.
- Reads and interprets plans to determine equipment, materials, and methods required to complete jobs.
- Performs regularly scheduled preventative maintenance, repairs, installations, and diagnostic work on HVACR systems at park facilities in accordance with manufacturer specifications and standards.
- Reports major repairs and unsafe conditions to supervisor and shuts down equipment when needed.
- Conducts routine testing and assesses condition of equipment to ensure safe operations.
- Provides instruction to technicians on proper use of and safety measures of equipment.
- Utilizes specific personal protection equipment (seat belts, foot protection, respirator, protective eyewear, etc.) always while performing duties per Department/MOSHA/OSHA policies.
- Maintains a clean and well-maintained work area to prevent accidents.
- Assigns, trains, and checks work of other HVACR Mechanics, Trades Apprentices, and Park/General Maintenance Workers.
- Calls customers and schedules jobs
- Communicates with vendors, outside contractors and manufacturers to order supplies and to get technical Support.
- Considerable knowledge and skill in standard HVACR practices and methods; Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), gas fitting, buildings, and fire codes; local, national electrical codes, International Mechanic Code and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance
- Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Ability to complete work orders and other work-related paperwork
- Ability to problem solve
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
- Completion of an approved HVACR apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible experience.
- Two (2) years of experience at the journey level.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
- Valid Journey HVACR License issued by appropriate local jurisdiction.
- Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's licenses must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
- Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required.
- Pass Commission medical examination.
