SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting Recreation Supervisors, Facility Supervisor, Recreation Manager and Recreation Superintendent in the day to day operations of the recreation programs division.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Operates Skate Competitions from start to finish including set up, marketing, hiring and supervision of staff, awards, scheduling, planning, implementation and evaluation.
· Assists in prize & sponsorship soliciting, purchasing of supplies, planning, implementing & evaluation.
· Provides facility coverage, covering the facility during irregular business hours.
· Assists with the supervision, registration, paperwork related to programs, camps, leagues, movies on the beach and other programs as assigned.
· Customer service including answering phones, taking registration, fielding questions, etc.
· Proposal of new recreation program, including planning, budget preparation, implementing and evaluation.
· Manage the department’s ‘July is Recreation and Parks Month’ campaign.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - Supervises 1 to 3 part time scorekeepers, officials, activity assistants. Ensuring that duties are carried out in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to think and act quickly and remain calm under emergency situations. Must be able to make decisions promptly and work unsupervised. Must have working knowledge of computers and be comfortable learning new software applications.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Working towards a bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Parks or related field. Receiving college credits for work and be enrolled in a college course for internship credit preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages. Ability to add; subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver’s license required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Rec-Trac. Lifeguard certification through American Red Cross or equivalent organization is desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, run, sit, and climb or balance.
