BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Directs the daily operation of the Lake Marion Community Center; implements and manages MVF’s facility rental program; oversees assigned youth camp location, and Village-wide special events.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Directs the daily operation of the Lake Marion Community Center including programing, staffing and marketing.

Coordinates scheduling and staffing of Community Centers for MVF programs and functions, private rentals, community groups use and HOA activities.

Follows MVF policies and recommends revisions, specifically those related to the use of MVF facilities. Ensures compliance with MVF policies, center rules and safety practices with staff, user groups and participants.

Plans, supervises, organizes and evaluates special events and programs including, but not limited to, the indoor flea market, Montgomery Village Community Band performances, holiday craft bazar, and implements other events as assigned. Assists with planning and implementing other seasonal events as requested, including in the areas of staffing.

Coordinates and oversees diverse drop-in activities at the Lake Marion Community Center.

Supervises assigned summer camp location. Responsible for all facets of the camp program, including managing on-site camp staff; communication with camp participants; ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements; procurement of resources; creation of training materials; and all other operational aspects. Assists periodically with other camp locations as requested. 

Acts as the Farmers’ Market Supervisor in the absence of the Recreation Specialist responsible for the Farmers’ Market.

Interviews, coordinates, supervises, evaluates temporary staff and independent contractors. Responsible for ensuring that hiring/onboarding procedures are followed. Approves payroll/paysheets.

Completes monthly reports, program plans and evaluations. Responsible for ensuring that administrative procedures, including waivers, are completed, and comply with financial procedures.

Completes regular inspections and safety assessments, maintains a hazard and drug-free environment, documents issues to identify risk areas and recommends improvements.

In conjunction with Communications, develops marketing materials such as press releases, posters, fliers, swinging signs, and center bulletin boards. Coordinates social media information with communications staff; Distributes materials as needed. Prepares information for quarterly recreation guides.

Maintains all facility equipment and supplies ensuring that they are kept in a clean and organized manner. Inventories and orders approved supplies and equipment within budget guidelines. Solicits bids.

Completes regular inspections and safety assessments; maintains a hazard and drug-free environment; documents issues to identify risk areas; and recommends improvements. Reports maintenance problems with the facility or grounds to the Facilities Manager and supervisor in a timely manner.

Assists with preparation of department budget and submits financial reports.

Works some evenings, weekends and holidays, including July 4th. Serves as on-site supervisor, as requested, for periodic evening and weekend programming operations (rentals, programs and events).

Must have access to smartphone and/or computer with internet access for company-provided email and job-related communication and scheduling.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation and sports programming.

Thorough knowledge of First Aid and CPR.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work with and communicate to diverse audiences and employees.

Work independently using sound judgement in the execution of the position’s duties.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and members of the public, including children and their parents/guardians, in a positive, courteous, tactful, and professional manner.

Perform moderate physical activities such as frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Physical activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, crawling, carrying, pushing and grasping. Able to lift 50 pounds

Work in an office environment and indoor recreation facilities. Ability to work outdoors at various parks and properties in a variety of weather conditions.

Lead workshops and/or training classes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education or experience substantially equivalent to graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in recreation, education or a related field.  Two years progressively responsible experience in recreation programming and supervision of staff.

Certified in American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED or (acceptable equivalent) or ability to obtain withing the first 120 days of employment.

Medical Administration Training for camps or ability to complete by no later than one week before the first day of summer camp.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Must pass a criminal background check and Child Protective Services background check.

Strong computer skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to speak Spanish.

Additional supervisory or recreation programming experience.
