Montgomery County Recreation is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency committed to providing high-quality, diverse, and accessible programs, services, and facilities that enhance the quality of life for all ages, cultures, and abilities. The department manages 39 facilities, including recreation centers, senior centers, and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation. 

 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

Montgomery County Recreation seeks an energetic, highly motivated Supervisor with specialized knowledge of youth and adult classes, summer camps, inclusive or adaptive programming, Therapeutic Recreation, and experience in operating large-scale programs.  


What You'll Be Doing


As a Supervisor, you must:  

  • Demonstrate considerable technical knowledge in recreation programming and therapeutic recreation, including program management, and have a proven track record of successfully managing classes, camps, inclusion services or related activities.  

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by setting a standard for high-level service delivery and initiating a responsive workforce.  

  • Lead work programs based on department priorities for serving the needs of a demographically diverse community. 

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to work in a variety of high-stress situations and environments with changing and competing priorities.  

 

As a Supervisor, you will: 

  • Monitor staff, programs, and participant engagement to ensure a clean, safe, and supportive environment. 

  • Research current trends and develop marketing strategies for the effective promotion of programs. 

  • Initiate innovative programming, including therapeutic recreation programs, new class implementation, instructor and coach recruitment, and promotion of equitable, accessible, and culturally relevant programs and services. 

  • Manage multiple program budgets and utilize data for appropriate resource allocations. 

  • Proactively communicate internally and externally, and develop and foster relationships with other county agencies, school administration, non-profits, and other service providers and stakeholders. 

  • Provide administrative oversight of financial records, permits, participant registrations, customer inquiries, etc.  

  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, supervise, and evaluate the performance of career and seasonal staff, contractors, and volunteers.   

  • Supervise and support the planning, organizing, promoting, scheduling, and directing of all assigned programs and activities, and evaluate the performance of personnel and programs under purview. 

  • Prepare reports, manuals, communications, and training. 

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create engaging and informative Recreation Guides, brochures, and website content that effectively and accurately communicates program offerings, schedules, and registration details.  

  • Publicly represent the Department and actively participate in team, department, and County meetings, events, and initiatives.  


Minimum Qualifications


  • Experience: Four (4) years of related professional experience in the recreational field.  

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.  

  • Substitution: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. 


Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences


  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices 

  • Proficient in various programs and camps with experience developing age-appropriate curricula and programs for people with and without disabilities. 

  • Experience utilizing recreation to build registrations, collect ADA requests, and to conduct data analysis evaluation. 

  • Experience supervising and leading the work of others to achieve program goals and deliver high-quality experiences for participants.
