Winter General Membership Meeting 

Please join MRPA for the 2023-2024 Winter General Membership Meeting.  Hear from the MRPA board and council members, as well as the MRPA staff.

Workshop: 2,193.7 – My Adventures Thru-Hiking the Appalachian Trail

To hike the AT, one of the longest continuous footpaths in the world, one must consider several key aspects, such as thorough planning, physical training, and a positive mindset.  Gary will share his journey and lessons learned.


About the speaker:
Gary Windham (He is working to become a Master Naturalist!)

Mr. Windham claims that he is not a spy, but after working for the National Security Agency for 42 years, a certain amount of doubt can be expected. Working as a Senior Electrical Engineer, he purports to be only an enabler in various capacities. After graduating from Auburn University in 1974, he designed custom integrated circuits supporting secure government communications. This was followed by fourteen years actually building integrated circuits in a new facility on the NSA campus. In 1999, he switched gears and was assigned to a technical liaison assignment near Munich, Germany. From there followed an assignment at the Pentagon in Information Assurance, another back at Ft. Meade in Signals Intelligence, and he finished his career as a Technical Director leveraging and promoting biometric technology to help 17 government agencies find foreign terrorists. Since retiring in 2016, he spends his time exercising, hiking, biking, and motorcycling, but more importantly, trying to keep his wife, Roberta sane as she serves as the Carroll County Administrator.

For the winter general membership meeting, we will be collecting hats, gloves, scarves, etc.  Everything collected will be donated to a local charity.
